Richard Hannon started his career as an assistant to his father, four-time British champion trainer Richard Hannon Snr., for 12 years. He took over the licence at Herridge in 2014 and sent out his first winner two days later.
In 2014 - his first season - Richard was crowned British Champion Trainer. He had 17 Group winners in Britain and a domestic haul of almost £4.7m. Victories included a classic winner with Night Of Thunder in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas, 3 Group One races including Newbury’s Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes with Olympic Glory and also the G1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot with Toronado.
Richard has had at least one Group 1 success in each of the six seasons he’s been training. Barney Roy won the 2017 St James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and Billesdon Brook gaining a second Classic success in the 2018 1000 Guineas. So far in 2019, Richard has had 149 wins including the Sun Chariot Stakes with Billesdon Brook and the QEII Stakes at Ascot with King of Change.
